Phil Hatton has long been passionate about the small swing groups of the 1930’s, 40’s and 50’s and featuring the sound of the clarinet and guitar in the front line. Groups such as the Benny Goodman Sextet, the John Kirby Sextet, small groups led by Buddy de Franco, Eddie Daniels, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Barney Kessell, Nat King Cole, Buck Clayton, Sweets Edison, Clifford Brown, Zoot Sims, Coleman Hawkins. Ben Webster, Scott Hamilton, etc. In addition to some of the classic tunes of these groups, you will hear some original compositions in this style, some fresh arrangements and some more contemporary sounds reflecting what some of these musicians might have sounded like today. This band contains some of Perth’s finest musicians in these styles: Kim Anning on guitar, Benn Hodgkin on trumpet, Dave Gryl on drums, Mal Mah on bass and Gabriel Fatin on piano.
